Get Back to the Well

Dear All,

It's Saturday and I am sitting here thinking about tomorrow's sermon.

Tomorrow's Gospel is so rich, so deep, so layered, that I am struggling to put too many thoughts into words.

It's the story of Jesus' encounter with the Samaritan Woman at the Well in John Chapter 4. It's the story of a spiritual betrothal and words can't do the beauty of it much justice.

If I imagine myself talking to the Woman after the event, and asking her to explain what happened to her in that meeting with Jesus, I think she'd say something like this:

"I can't really explain it. I met Him and gave Him a drink. He told me all about myself and showed me that He was always the One I was looking for. And now I love him and tell everyone I know about Him."

Maybe I should just say that. Sermon over.

As I write I am listening to one of my favourite contemporary Gospel songs by a band called the Housefires. It’s catchy and all about us going to ‘The Well’ just like the Samaritan Woman.

Maybe we will end up finding what she found and telling everyone about it?

Have a listen if you feel like it.

God bless you all.

James
